The working group formally consists of three subdivisions: Energy, Transport and Environment. The general aim of ETE is to apply state of the art economic theory to current policy issues at the national and European level. An important asset of ETE is its extensive portfolio of numerical partial and general equilibrium models for the assessment of transport, energy and environmental policies.

ETE is a part of the Centrum voor Economische Studiën (C.E.S.) which is the research division of the Department of Economics of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (K.U.Leuven). It is also one of the founders of the spin-off transport consultancy Transport & Mobility Leuven and of the Energy Institute (E.I.).
